The cooperative Wine Cellar covers the entire scope of wine-growing region Bela Krajina. The vineyards in Bela Krajina are mainly located on the southern slopes of Gorjanci, at an altitude between 200 and 350 m above sea level. For the viniferous region of Bela Krajina it is characteristic that the climate is favorable to vines. Average daily temperatures in the growing season are favorable high given the fact that during the same period, there is also a relatively favorable rainfall. White as well as the red wine grape varieties grow in Bela Krajina. Laski rizling and Kraljevina dominate among the white varieties. Slightly less all the other white varieties such as Chardonnay, White Pinot, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon, Zeleni Silvanec, Rhine Riesling, Yellow Muscat, Kerner, Žlahtnina and Traminec. Among the red varieties, the largest share belongs to Blue Franconian and Rose Zametna Crnina. To a lesser extent, however, are represented the other red varieties Portugalka, Šentlovrenka, Gamay, Pinot noir and Zweigelt.
The Wine Cellar acquires and processes grapes from nearly 200 winegrowers and the grapes from their own vineyards. On our own plantations, we process a total of 26 hectares; we have over 110,000 planted vines. Our own vineyards are located on the two best locations of the viniferous region of Bela Krajina, namely in Vinomerja and Vidosici.
In collaboration with the two winegrowers, we also harvest vine grafts. The selection of the vine and the graft preparation, the grading of young grafts and their sale is carried out in KZ Metlika. The process of grafting and the breeding of young grafts in a nursery are, however, carried out by our cooperator. The quantity of harvested vine grafts is enough for the need of the viniferous region of Bela Krajina, some are sold also to the adjacent wine-growing areas.
